R.E.P.O.R.T is, I assume, something the kids are doing?
So as a typical elder millennial, I am about to copy it
I saw this ‘R.E.P.O.R.T’ thing on Jenny Claffey’s Instagram. Jenny is one of those effortlessly cool people who can pull of bangs, knows about Japanese food and presents an edgy podcast. One look at the pod’s website will tell you all you need to know. She is also legitimately ‘down with the kids’, unlike me, who has to write things like ‘down with the kids’ on her Substack to illustrate someone’s intergenerational co-mingling.
I digress – R.E.P.O.R.T, as you’re about to see, is a jaunty little acronym that provides a neat structure for users of it to lay out their recent recommendations.
READING
Many things, as per, but among them my good friend Lia’s most recent post about burnout. Now, I know what you’re thinking. You’re practically burnt out from reading takes on burnout. But I promise you, this take is worthy – and beautifully written. It’s essentially a piece about the element of choice when it comes to burnout and its many suggested remedies: What if you CAN’T just take two weeks off, find a cabin in the woods and do yoga every day at sunrise? What if your missed mortgage payment notices are sitting right there on your kitchen table while you struggle through yet another week of work, family management and personal commitments? Sometimes, reaching burnout isn’t something you can voluntarily call a halt to. Anyway – read the piece. It’s super.
I’m also a new and hopeful and expectant and delighted subscriber to Emer McLysaght and Sarah Breen’s new Substack, The Ballygobbard Project. Fans of Aisling will be buzzed – and I’m not being weird and talking about myself in the first person there. I mean the ‘Aisling’ from the books.
EATING
…rings around myself, as always.
But on a serious note… I CANNOT stop thinking about the crispy pork tacos I had way back in FEBRUARY in The Clermont in Blackrock, Co Louth. Random, yes. Delicious beyond belief, also yes.
I was out there with D, my bestie and her husband, and the four of us all enjoyed our meals in their entireties. But the standout dish (and I know, because I tried them all) was the pork taco one.
I genuinely hope my husband reads down this far and takes this as a GLARING, massive hint and books us in to eat there soon again. He’ll receive bonus Husband Points if he ropes my bestie in too.
PLAYING
Apart from the obvious (Gaelic football and Beyonce’s Cowboy Carter album) I have been spending a LOT of time lately pressing play on the following:
