Before you continue…

Housekeeping, I suppose they’d call it?

Given the influx of new subscribers since my last post (THANK YOU) and given the unfortunate situation I find myself in (I believe they call it ‘unemployment’) I’m upping the ante here on Substack, if for no other reason than I have time on my hands and I hate being idle (those memes about eldest children who are daughters and how they deserve compensation are aimed at me, I fear).

I’m setting out my stall. I was going to say ‘for want of a better phrase’, but that’s actually bang on. I’m going to make it crystal clear what I’m offering, what my value proposition is, and why you should continue to subscribe. While good writing is already of value (IMO!) it’s also frighteningly subjective, so I have to do more.

I’m going to really lean in to the magazine vibe for some of the short form work, as you’ll see, so don’t be surprised if you see magazine-like spreads featuring.

My work here will fall into these categories, going forward:

  • Weekly columns (which is what my *usual* content is, that will continue)

  • Webinars (for paid subscribers only, helping small businesses, writers, substackers, whoever – they’ll be themed – with things like communications, branding, social media, copywriting and more)

  • Life notes (book/TV/podcast/travel recommendations etc)

  • Style notes (not that I have any, I’m trusting and asking the experts)

  • Beauty notes (I actually have quite an amount of expertise here)

  • A few miscellaneous bits, including but not limited to a paid-subscriber-only podcast series

I will up my posting frequency a bit too, and if it gets too much for you (which I ABSOLUTELY understand, it would be too much for me because I subscribe to about 9 million Substacks) you can opt out of some of the emails you get from me in your settings here on the site or if you use the app.

Opting out of things you’re not interested in will be made easier by me tagging my posts #style #beauty #column #webinar #life #podcast etc. If you need any help at all with that, DM me and I’ll give you a dig out.

I was already endlessly grateful for the very kind and special community of readers we have here, and for the quite remarkable financial support you guys show my writing. But even more so now, with my situation, I really mean this: Thank you. From my heart.

We’ll start off with, as the title of the piece suggests, trends that wind up being timeless, forever things for some stylish people I follow.

Thank you again for being here. I need more words for ‘grateful’, clearly.
