"I was the most important person in his life. Or so he said."
The second in my (rather bleak but worthwhile) series on being lied to in a relationship

Today’s story is one of a shoddily held together double life. A man with so many secrets I genuinely don’t know where he found the time? Thank you to the very kind woman who shared this with me – and her advice, as with many of these stories, is to trust your gut, never accept half truths and never stand for receiving less than you deserve.
“I met a guy when I was 17 through mutual friends and we became really good friends. I liked him a lot, but he was a couple of years older than I was, so I wasn't sure. When I first met him, his ex-girlfriend showed up at a group meet up. He told the group that in no uncertain terms that they were over and that she was the one not ‘letting it go’, per se.
I had a chat with her and she seemed nice but I just thought maybe she was hoping they might rekindle. I didn't think much more of it. Myself and the guy got increasingly closer and at a weekend away we kissed for the first time. I was very excited but he said it would be better to keep it a bit quiet so as not to rock the "friend group" boat. I agreed, as it didn't bother me either way.
