Isn’t it mad that with the *addition* of a full time job, I’m more consistent with my posting schedule than ever before? Substack has done things for me which Patreon could never.
Anyway, story time. Inspired somewhat by Valentine’s Day (it’s February 15th as I write) and (late addendum) by my friend Caroline’s post about her One Day style love story, I decided I’d write about the history of my own relationship. Someone did ask me on Instagram to write this post too, so credit to you, if you’re reading this!
The title of this piece, first of all, is a brief story all on its own.
I was known, for a time, as the ‘Love Oracle’ on a Dublin radio station called Spin 103.8. As a result of my sex and relationships column and my ability to chat on air (as opposed to any solid knowledge or qualification) I found myself as a regular contributor. Each week, presenters Lauren and Gordon would ask me to help listeners who were in relationship bother. I was doing my usual slot, and without meaning to or realising it, I started a sentence with “well, my current husband and I…” to which Lauren immediately reacted “your CURRENT husband??”. It was then that I realised my unconscious error. Luckily, my husband (who was listening, ofc) was and remains understanding of my slip up. I like to think it keeps him on his toes somewhat.
