Hello there,

This is out of our regularly scheduled programming, but I’m writing a LOT this week, so what’s another couple of hundred words? I hope you don’t mind the extra ping into your inbox (but if it’s too much, please feel free to mute me or manage your email preferences in your Substack account!)

The first thing I’d like to talk about is reflexology.

If you have tried it, you’ll get what I mean when I say it is miraculous. I went back this week after not going for over a year (for no other reason than I didn’t have the time) and my god, when I left I felt three inches taller and lighter than I’ve felt in months.

Reflexology treats your feet like a control panel for your body. By applying pressure to specific zones on your feet, reflexologists use the technique to improve circulation, reduce stress, improve sleep, help digestion and sort other minor ailments. It’s based on the idea that energy flows through the body, and blockages can cause discomfort. Studies have shown reflexology can ease chronic pain by up to 40% and reduce stress for 81% of people after just one session. It’s even shown to improve quality of life for 88% of cancer patients in studies.

I go into this not-awake-not-asleep zone of calmness, where my conscious mind switches off completely but yet I retain the awareness of what’s going on in my body. If you haven’t had it before, I URGE you. Make an appointment. My gal, Radiance Healing with Niamh, is brilliant if you’re in North County Dublin. I’ve been going to her for probably six years or so, and she’s phenom.

Wedding dressing

I don’t know about you, but I struggle big time when trying to put together suitable wedding guest outfits. I want it to be MANY things: Appropriate, comfortable, suited to my shape, demure, mindful, etc. I’ve a wedding to attend this coming weekend, and I thought I’d talk through my outfit logic. As someone who’s not a straight up and down size 8, it can be trickier to dress, so maybe this will give some inspo? Hope so.

Here are the elements of the outfit:

The whole thing cost me around €115, which isn’t bad, and I’ll rewear almost all of the elements multiple times. Most of what’s there is current or very recent stock, too. I don’t often buy full new outfits, but these things I could justify as solid rewear options.

First thing was, the dress fit me everywhere but my boobs, so I took it to the Zip Yard to get it altered, which cost me an additional €35. I bought a three pack of tights because knowing my luck, I’ll have a ladder by the time the vows are finished. And I’m bringing flats in the car just in case the court shoes do my toes dirty. You literally never know.

Staying safe in the black and gold region, I know I’ll feel comfortable in the dress, and the tights will mean no thigh chaffing (!) and less need to panic about how my leg tan turns out. Meanwhile, the bow in my hair will draw attention away from the curls that will no doubt fall upon entry into the earth’s atmosphere, and the chain mail clutch will hold more than just three Tic Tacs and a lip liner (looking directly at my Chanel Wallet-on-Chain here – stunning, but essentially useless for a long event like a wedding).

I’ll let you know how I get on, and if I’m feelin’ myself I’ll post a picture.

And now the secret project…

I started something BIG during Covid. Then I got pregnant, then I got sick, then I got busy with a baby, toddler, job… you know how it goes.
